“Her First Word Will Be Dada”

Happy Wednesday Everyone! This blog was written by my husband, the one and only JOHN PAUL MARTIN THE FIRST (that’s what he likes to go by in the public eye 😉 ).  Check out his funny humor as he tries to navigate his way through this pregnancy!

OH by the way, his deadline to have this written was this past Monday, but his excuse was he has to work AND take care of me while on bed rest.  I guess I can let that one go 🙂

Throughout Darcy’s pregnancy, our friends have blessed us with a number of gifts, kind words and most importantly, support. We really appreciate everyone as they have helped us get this far!  I would have to say my favorite gift up to this point is the book my BRE (best roommate ever) Ryan and his fiancé Amy gave us when we first found out we were expecting.  It is appropriately titled: “Your baby’s First Word Will Be Dada” By Jimmy Fallon (Shocker, that that’s my favorite). In honor of Darcy’s blog about her thoughts throughout the pregnancy, I thought it would be fun if I did the same.  So without further ado here is what I’ve experienced so far…

  1. It truly is all about her. Everyone asks me how she is doing, and how she is feeling, never curious how I am holding up.  I mean, we are in this together right?  People will purposely not talk to me and go right for the Mother.
  2. She told me that she needs to buy maternity clothes so she stops wearing mine.  Her new clothes came weeks ago and her maternity clothes are still in the box…
  3. We had three names left for our baby and we decided we were going to wait until we saw her to decide.  One name came from me, two from her.  When we “practiced using the names, Darcy smiled when i said her names, when I said the name I suggested, she said, “ehhhh.”  Needless to say, she was only keeping my name in the finals so I felt like I had a say.
  4. I now know what NICU, Preeclampsia, NST, Mucus Plug and MFM mean.
  5. When it comes to food, no matter how healthy or convenient it may be, cravings trump all.
  6. Trying not to laugh when she gets upset for no reason.  No, seriously, I could tell her it was starting to rain and she would burst into tears.
  7. We know how to take blood pressure better than doctors.
  8. Back to the names, we all know we will name her Johna Paula, but boy have we heard a lot of suggestions, especially from grandma and grandpa.
  9. I LOVE having a DD.  I sure hope she likes it so much that she continues to be it for years to come!
  10. If you are looking for a push present for me, I’m now into white New Balance shoes, khaki cargo shorts and fanny packs.
  11. For those of you keeping up to date with April the giraffe, I am going to be pacing in the hospital when Darcy is giving birth more than Oliver is pacing in his pen.
  12. Back to the names, no we don’t have it picked out yet, and no we won’t tell you what names we are considering.
  13. Am I the only spouse that tries to get his blood pressure taken by the nurse every time they go to the doctor with their wife?
  14. And to confirm, they are HUGE……………….. dad jokes that is
  15. This baby is already running our lives and we wouldn’t want it any other way!

There you have it! The father of my daughter everyone.  Hope you enjoyed his sense of humor as much as I do.  Here’s a few pictures of him with our niece and nephew that he absolutely adores (see below).  He is so great with them.  I can’t imagine how he will be with his own!  Check out his videos below with the kids.  Clearly you can see a theme here….he is the beatbox/noise maker master.
